4月18-19日，微软亚洲研究院首席研究员、视觉计算组主任马毅博士（IEEE Fellow）应邀访问我校，并受聘为我校客座教授。此次访问得到了“中国科学技术大学研究生教育创新研究计划”的支持，并由研究生院、电子工程与信息科学系、中科院电磁空间信息重点实验室、多媒体计算与通信教育部-微软重点实验室具体承办。

　　4月18日晚，马毅博士客座教授聘任仪式在我校西区学术报告厅举行。信息学院院长李卫平教授致辞并为马毅博士颁发了客座教授聘书。李卫平院长高度评价了微软亚洲研究院与我院在科学研究、人才培养等方面的密切合作，并表示马毅博士受聘为我校客座教授必将进一步加深双方的合作关系。马毅博士欣然接受聘书并表示，作为科大的客座教授，今后会经常到科大与师生进行深入交流。聘任仪式由信息学院俞能海教授主持。

　　聘任仪式结束后，马毅博士为我校师生做题为“Pursuit of Low-dimensional Structures in High-dimensional Data”的高水平学术报告。马毅博士高屋建瓴地介绍了高维数据空间中挖掘低维数据结构的相关理论、方法和最新研究进展，以生动的例子展示了相关数学模型和工具对图像处理、机器视觉、模式识别等领域所带来的巨大影响，突出了数学研究和工程实践相互结合的必要性。整个报告会生动活泼，会场座无虚席，同学们踊跃提问。

　　马毅博士简介：

　　Dr. Yi Ma is a Principal Researcher and the Research Manager of the Visual Computing group at Microsoft Research Asia in Beijing since January 2009. Before that he was a professor at the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His main research interest is in computer vision, high-dimensional data analysis, and systems theory. He is the first author of the popular vision textbook “An Invitation to 3-D Vision,"published by Springer in 2003. Yi Ma received his Bachelors’ degree in Automation and Applied Mathematics from Tsinghua University (Beijing, China) in 1995, a Master of Science degree in EECS in 1997, a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics in 2000, and a PhD degree in EECS in 2000, all from the University of California at Berkeley. Yi Ma received the David Marr Best Paper Prize at the International Conference on Computer Vision 1999, the Longuet-Higgins Best Paper Prize at the European Conference on Computer Vision 2004, and the Sang Uk Lee Best Student Paper Award with his students at the Asian Conference on Computer Vision in 2009. He also received the CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation in 2004 and the Young Investigator Award from the Office of Naval Research in 2005. He was an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (PAMI) from 2007 to 2011. He is currently an associate editor of the International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV), the IMA journal on Information and Inference, SIAM journal on Imaging Sciences, and IEEE transactions on Information Theory. He has served as the chief guest editor for special issues for the Proceedings of IEEE and the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine. He will also serve as Program Chair for ICCV 2013 and General Chair for ICCV 2015. He is a Fellow of IEEE.
